One of the best ways to get ore and get your legacy mining fix in the game. We have tweaked asteroid mining to make getting there a better experience and also sped up the mining times.
Firstly, the original DSAT (Deep Space Asteroid Tracker) was a monstrosity, non-practical and only really looked cool when at at a base so we've re-skinned it to a legacy Radar M and also reduced the weight so you can attach one of these to your ships with ease.
We felt that finding a space rock shouldn't take you 30 minutes of flying to 5 different locations so we've reduced the time-to-rock significantly. After you have selected a rumoured asteroid, you will now go to 1 waypoint before getting the final position of the rock. This waypoint will be a little way away to prevent too much asteroid camping and to give you a chance to get some ores in before the pirates come!
T3, T4 and T5 ores simply took too long to mine so we tweaked both the time to max circle and the unstable time (the time before you can get any ore).
The minimum and maximum distance the asteroids can spawn from planets are 20su and 60su respectively. The safe zone probability for all asteroids has been tweaked so Basic Asteroids always spawn in the safe zone. Uncommon, Advanced, Rare and Exotic all spawn outside of the safe zone.
In the MMO, NQ disabled a feature which allowed for a player to place a core on an asteroid. This prevented players from organising "mining operations" where they would place down a base shield and defences and bulk-mine an asteroid with an escorted pickup. We've re-enabled this feature to encourage this type of gameplay.
