My stance to planet mining is that because it's a "mine it once and it's gone forever", new players won't get the same experience and benefit so we opted out of using it. Restoring ores on planets isn't really possible but if it becomes possible in the future we may look to implement it in the new universes.
TLDR: A bit of both One of the main gripes I had with the MMO experience was that space was too safe. I wanted to create an experience where there are consequences for leaving a planet which meant that simply putting auto-pilot on and walking away is less of an option because there is a slight chance that you will be attacked either by a PVE Pirate or by a player. Relationships and standing in an MMO are important so speak to each other, work out safety pacts or security details and fly safe! We also added in a new full PVP planet - Aresion - which has enhanced ore pools but has a constant risk of getting attacked. My aspiration with this planet and setup is that long term after trialling this we can look to move towards proper territory warfare on other new planets (so as to not affect the existing game).
We previously had a Market Bot and ended up in a situation where we had to wipe the server because it got abused. Market Bots discourage player interaction and are a means of dumping items for quanta which inflates the market and makes everything worthless. Although it's been a little slow, we've added the #market-feed channel so you can see all of the buy and sell orders being placed by players. We are also looking into solutions to create a broader view of all items that are being sold and bought on the market but there is no ETA on when this will be available.
Dual Universe as an MMO is a Sandbox MMO but lacks the “RPG” elements present in so many other games. We want to build a dynamic world filled with life in the form of NPC’s to supplement players and bring in those traditional MMORPG elements that we feel are missing. Using NPC’s we are going to introduce Lore, Quests, Dynamic Missions, Influence, Reputation and much, much more. Whilst a lot of the “backbone” and infrastructure to this vision has already been worked out, we need your support to play with the NPC’s - test them - and feed back on what is working, what doesn’t work and what you’d like to see in the future. Our gameplay mantra is to reward active players/playtime by providing enhanced benefits such as quanta and talent point rewards, greater yield from asteroid mining and riches from frequently interacting with the NPC’s we have injected into the game.
